Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Jasmine (Jasminum spp.) has a long history of traditional use in supporting the female reproductive system, particularly in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. In these traditions, jasmine flowers and their essential oils have been used to help regulate menstrual cycles, alleviate menstrual cramps, and provide emotional support during the menstrual period. Jasmine is also sometimes incorporated into massage oils or teas for women during childbirth or postpartum recovery, as it is believed to have mild analgesic and mood-lifting effects. However, scientific validation for these uses is limited. While jasmine essential oil has demonstrated some mild sedative, anxiolytic, and antispasmodic properties in laboratory and small clinical studies, there is insufficient clinical evidence specifically supporting its efficacy for menstrual regulation, pain relief, or other aspects of female reproductive health. Most contemporary uses are based on traditional practices and anecdotal evidence rather than robust clinical trials. In summary, while jasmine is widely used in traditional medicine systems to support female reproductive health, the scientific evidence does not robustly validate these uses. Its primary justification comes from historical and cultural practices rather than modern research.
